Romanian scholars, the Fulbright Romanian Student Scholarship for 2023-2024 is here. Now, it is time for all Romanian master’s and research students with dreams to study in the United States to start doing the needful. Interestingly, Romanian students in their final year of bachelor’s degree who are ready to follow up with their master’s degree immediately can apply too.
However, you must be ready to compete for the Fulbright Romanian Student Scholarship. So, if you fall into the category of students, and you are a Romanian citizen or a permanent resident in Romania, in your final year of bachelor’s, master’s, or early Ph.D. student. Therefore, begin your application process immediately and avoid the idea of rushing through it just before the closing date.
Fulbright Romanian Student Scholarship 2023-2024
The Fulbright Romanian Student Scholarship is a student award competition for master’s, research students, and bachelor’s students in their final year. Also, the scholarship is for those students from accredited private or public schools in Romania. Besides, Romanian students who are currently residing in the United States and have been residents in the U.S for 5 or more years. Or, those who have recently graduated from a U.S academic institution are ineligible to apply. Meaning that what the Fulbright Romanian Student Scholarship require is candidates without extensive previous experience in the United States.
Furthermore, if you are a candidate that is interested in a research program you must be in the early stage of the Ph.D. study. Also, those candidates interested in research scholarships but already have a Ph.D. degree can apply for the Fulbright Visiting Scholar Award Competition. Luckily, the visiting scholar scholarship will open up this April.
Eligible fields
Basically, all academic fields are eligible for study with the Fulbright Romanian Student Scholarship. Except of course clinical fields that will require patients contact.
Scholarship duration
The Fulbright scholarship will run for one academic year. That is, starting from August 2023.
Scholarship benefits
Currently, the scholarship provides:
- Tuition fees
- Monthly stipend for accommodation and living expenses
- Book allowance
- Supply allowance
- Airfare
- J-I visa sponsorship and administration
- Accident/sickness insurance all for the one-year academic session.
However, second-year costs for the Fulbright Romanian master’s students may be covered. This mostly depends on the availability of funds. Also, it depends on the proof of your good academic standing during the first year of study.
Application criteria
In continuation, you must meet these criteria in other to apply:
- Firstly, be a Romanian citizen. However, green card holders and persons with dual (Romanian and the United States) citizenship can not apply.
- Hold at least a bachelor’s degree. (BA students may apply if they are in their final year of undergraduate study)
- Also, have English language proficiency
- If applying to Law, you must hold a degree in the field.
What you must submit
- A complete online application is available here
- Three letters of recommendation from university professors and/or other acknowledged Romanian or foreign professionals. The referees must submit the documents directly in the online application by referees or mail as a signed official paper copy. (by May 9, 2022, postmarked); again, the recommenders can submit the letters of recommendation via email: [email protected], as scanned, signed documents by May 9, 2022.
- Also, academic transcripts and diplomas for all undergraduate and graduate levels, accompanied by translations, scanned and uploaded to the online application by May 9, 2022. Furthermore, official paper transcripts should be sent at a later date, only by those that have been selected for interview. Also note, you do not need your high school transcripts and diplomas.
Candidates must also:
- Be a representative and responsible citizen with demonstratable potential. Also, contribute to the mutual understanding of culture and values in Romania and the United States of America.
- Share the acquired professional experience or act out the results of your research upon return. And contribute to the specific area of knowledge.
- Show motivation and flexibility that is necessary to adapt effectively to live in the United States.
Selection process
- First and foremost, as an applicant, you are subject to pre-screening.
- Fulbright alumni and leading Romanian and the United States scholars in particular fields of knowledge are the ones to assess study/research projects.
- As a recommended candidate by review, you will be invited to an interview that will be conducted by a bi-national selection committee in September 2022
- The nominated finalists will go for final approval by the Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB)
Please note that only online applications will be accepted. Moreover, incomplete applications will lead to exclusion of the respective applicant from the further selection process. More so, the scholarship board will not return your paper documents.
Also, note that Fulbright participants should be aware of these things. That is, public health conditions availability of consular services and travel, as well as, United States institutional operating status and policies can affect your ability to travel to the United States of America and participate in academic programs.
