Gillian Stead Bursary
If you’re studying for a BSc or MMath degree in mathematics and have 128 UCAS Tariff points from three A-Levels* or equivalent, including an A in maths, you’ll receive a cash award of £2,100.
The Gillian Stead Bursary is paid in two £1,050 instalments per year, for a maximum of three years.
You’ll continue to receive the award in your second and final years of study if you have an average mark of 65 or above in each year.
The Gillian Stead Bursary will be paid in two equal instalments in October and February of each academic year.
Gillian Stead graduated with a first class degree from The University of Hull in Special Honours Mathematics, and in 1976 was awarded a PhD with a thesis entitled ‘Theoretical aspects of moving interfaces’. After her studies here Gillian taught maths at A-level in many institutions and also with the Open University. Following her tragically early death, this memorial bursary was generously set up in her name by her father, to support students of the subject she loved.
Students in receipt of the University of Hull Gillian Stead Bursary will not be eligible for the University of Hull Merit or Achievement Scholarships. The terms of the bursary are subject to review by the Department.

Eligibility
The award is available to UK undergraduate students who enter the first year of a BSc or MMath degree in mathematics and who have obtained 128 UCAS Tariff points from three A-Levels* including an A in A level maths or equivalent*.
Students must maintain an average mark of 65 or above in each year of study for the award to continue into their second and third years of study.
Applicants who achieve the set criteria do not need to apply for the bursary, they will be automatically considered. Students in receipt of the University of Hull Gillian Stead Bursary will not be eligible for the University of Hull Merit or Achievement Scholarships. The terms of the bursary are subject to review by the Department.
* Standard University of Hull methods are used to define equivalents. UCAS points from General Studies are not considered.
