Volunteer with the Law Enforcement Auxiliary Service

Volunteer with the Law Enforcement Auxiliary Service

Although the Law Enforcement Department’s primary role is by-law enforcement and addressing traffic violations, they are playing an increasingly larger role in joining with local communities to prevent crime.

The Safety and Security Directorate launched its Volunteer Law Enforcement Auxiliary Service (LEAS) in 2013. Unique in South Africa, the programme has recruited a few hundred members to date.

Volunteers are encouraged to join their local neighbourhood watch first, as this demonstrates a passion and commitment towards protecting their community and creating a safer city. We will then recruit members of the neighbourhood watch to volunteer with us. Those interested in volunteering should be able-bodied, demonstrate a commitment to safety, have no criminal record, and have the ability to work a minimum of 16 hours per month.
